MUSHROOM SQUARES
These mushroom squares are perfect if you’re having company, especially if they like mushrooms. They are a simple hors d’oeuvre but are delicious nonetheless. I mean how could they not be delicious when they are loaded with mushrooms, cheese, and onion. Don’t skip out on these mushroom squares.
Mushroom Squares

INGREDIENTS
2’ by 2’ inch squares of pumpernickel or rye bread (if not available, cut bread of choice into quarters)
4 tablespoons of butter
8 oz. of chopped white mushrooms
1 white onion (diced)
8 oz. of regular cream cheese
1 can of cream of mushroom soup
Optional shredded cheddar cheese (or cheese of choice)

Prep
Toast the bread on a cookie sheet in the oven at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until slightly firm.
Prepare the Mushroom Mixture
Add the butter and mushrooms to a large pan over medium heat and cook for about 1 minute. Now add the onion and cook until the mushrooms have shrunk in size and the onions are transparent. Melt the cream cheese into a stir-able consistency either by melting it in the pan with the mushrooms or in the microwave. Once the cream cheese is melted, stir it in the pan with the mushroom mixture and stir in the cream of mushroom soup as well. Stir this mixture until it is spreadable.Prepare the Mushroom Squares
Spread the mushroom mixture onto the toasted bread squares and top with the optional cheese. Finally, put back into the oven at 350 degrees for 20 more minutes.Serve
